Watch how to prevent breaking your chairs. Learn how a chairs age so you can fix it before the problem gets worse and it breaks. Also see what abuse can break a chair.
Chairs require maintenance over their lifetime because they’re subjected to continuous stresses. As people sit, move, and shift in a chair, the joints of the chair are put under strain. Eventually the joints begin to loosen. This is normal for a wooden chair. It can take 15-50 years for a chair to begin to have loose joints, but when that occurs, they should be re-glued.
The sign of a loose chair is sound and/or movement as shown in the video. If a chair is left long enough with loose joints, they will become broken, which will be more costly to repair. As a furniture repair business, we repair a lot of chairs, so we advise re-gluing chairs before they become broken chairs.
